Deidre Knight is a literary agent, mom, wife, novelist and southern woman, and proud to answer to all of these titles. Before she founded The Knight Agency in 1996, Deidre worked behind the camera in movies and television. During the thirteen years since she launched her literary agency, she has grown The Knight Agency to national prominence, shepherding authors on to every major bestseller list. With agency sales of more than 1,000 titles to major publishers, a large percentage of which are in the categories of romance and women’s fiction, Deidre has established a reputation for discovering vivid and unique storytellers and is considered an industry expert on the hot trends of paranormal fiction and urban fantasy.
Writing in these genres, she creates fresh characters and strong, emotional storylines. As an author, Deidre has been described not only as “outstanding” and “emotionally evocative,” but also as having “tremendous verve and a great knack for character and smart scenes.” Her novels have been nominated for a plethora of accolades including the PEARL, the PRISM, the NOR, the JABIC and the STRCA.
Deidre began her writing career at age nine, when her award-winning essay on Barbie was published in her hometown newspaper, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She has been writing in one form or another ever since. After nearly a decade of working with Knight Agency clients, helping them discover their creative potential, Deidre’s dream of writing romance came true in the form of her debut series The Midnight Warriors, which launched with PARALLEL ATTRACTION in the spring of 2006.
Deidre's current series, Gods of Midnight, chronicles the journey of seven passionate, immortal Spartan warriors who battle demons in modern day Savannah. The first book, RED FIRE, debuted in October 2008 and was awarded a HOLT Medallion Award of Merit by the Virginia Romance Writers of America chapter. The second installment, RED KISS, released the following year and was awarded a Reviewers' Choice Award by CataNetwork for being one of the top books of 2009, and also garnered second place in the 2009 New England RWA's Readers' Choice Bean Pot Awards for the Futuristic/Fantasy/Paranormal/Time Travel category.
On the horizon is an e-novella, RED BLOODED, and RED DEMON, the fourth book in the Gods of Midnight series, which will be released in May and June, respectively. Deidre is also a contributing author in the DARK AND STORMY KNIGHTS anthology (St. Martins, July 2010), which will include stories from P.N. Elrod, Jim Butcher, Shannon K. Butcher, Vicki Pettersson, Rachel Caine and Ilona Andrews, among others.
Last April, Deidre's first foray into the contemporary romance genre, BUTTERFLY TATTOO, was published as an ebook and subsequently released as a trade paperback this February. The novel garnered a stellar Publishers Weekly review, which declared, “Knight handles this unusual tale with admirable delicacy and adds a twist worthy of an Emmy-award winning soap opera.” The book also received an Epic Award for Best Contemporary Romance and a Readers Choice honorable mention from the Sammie Awards for Favorite Ebook of 2009. Deidre has often called the critically acclaimed title "the book of her heart." |
